Modern Languages

Coleg Glan Hafren offers languages at various levels, from Agored Cymru courses with coursework only, to short courses, GCSEs and A Levels - for school leavers and adults of any age. Courses are run in the daytime or the evening to suit you. With convenient times & locations, good facilities, excellent tutors, award-winning learning centres and support, Coleg Glan Hafren will help you gain the language skills or qualifications you need.

Out of our 2008 GCSE results, 30 part-time language students have performed the best with A-C grades achieved in Italian GCSE by 100% of students and in Spanish Higher GCSE by 87.5% of students, including 9 Grade As and 2 Grade A*s, and A-C in French GCSE by 80% of students. GCSE Evening classes

All of these French, Italian and Spanish courses are one year courses. The GCSE courses have exams and coursework and will help to prepare you for A Level languages. The GCSEs cover the language in these topic areas:

  • At home and abroad
  • Education, training and employment
  • House, Home and daily routine
  • Media, entertainment and youth culture
  • Social activities, fitness and health

AS and A2 Levels

French is offered at AS or A2 Level in the evening, and AS Spanish is offered in the evening.

Welsh for adults

We also offer Welsh/Cymraeg at Agored Cymru (previously known as OCN) Levels 1-3 in the evening (Agored Cymru 1 is also offered in the daytime). There are four units, speaking, listening, reading and writing. Credits can be gained for an individual unit, or a full certificate can be awarded by completing assessments in all four units.
