Sport & Community

This faculty runs a wide range of different courses.

Care and Community Studies

The Care and Community Section offers courses for those wishing to work in the Health and Social Care, Childcare or Pharmacy industries.

We offer courses at all levels for both school leavers and mature adults. As there is a heavy emphasis on vocational practice, candidates on all courses will need to go out on practical work-based training/experience.

Applicants need to demonstrate that they have a genuine commitment to the caring field and can fulfil the requirements laid down by the awarding bodies.

Prospective students will be asked to take a diagnostic entry test at interview and provide satisfactory references. All Childcare students need to take a Criminal Review Bureau check (CRB / police check) during induction.

Care and Community Studies works in Partnership with:-
  • The Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership
  • Social Care Partnership (South East Wales)
  • Children’s Play Services
  • Wales Pre-school Playgroups Association

Sport & Uniformed Public Services

The Welsh Assembly Government’s drive to get more people physically active combined with a range of proposed developments in Cardiff such as the International Sports Village, Cardiff City FC’s new ground and the 2012 Olympics should mean more job and sporting opportunities in Cardiff for years to come.

Our impressive Sports Hall is complemented by the Lifestyle and Fitness Centre. The centre contains a full range of resistance and cardiovascular equipment including treadmills, cross-trainers and step machines. This creates a high-quality teaching environment for our students, which allows for curriculum-related assessments to be carried out.

Uniformed Public Services studies are very good preparation for those who aim to enter the armed forces, police or fire service. It provides a comprehensive introduction to working in the uniformed services.

Travel & Tourism, Hospitality & Catering

Hospitality and Catering is one of the fastest growth industries in Wales and Cardiff is at the centre of it.

Our full-time NVQ courses in catering offer the opportunity to gain industry recognised qualifications.  Courses cover all aspects of the industry and will interest those considering working in hotels, restaurants, bars, clubs, and a wide range of leisure and retail facilities. The majority of students’ training will be in the college's Seren Training Restaurant, a working catering kitchen and restaurant environment.

With Cardiff fast becoming a major tourist destination, the Travel and Tourism course pathway aims to provide students with an understanding of the ways in which the Travel and Tourism industries attempt to satisfy people’s demands for using leisure time.
